08Feb Why Optical Mouse is Preferred?
As all we know that, these days optical mouses completely replaces the old fashioned track ball mouses that are too costly and also difficult to operate. An optical mouse is a device that is used for pointing the objects on the desktop screen. Those track ball mouses use the electromechanical transducer for placing the pointer while in the case of optical mouse it uses a light-emitting diode (LED), an optical sensor, and digital signal processing for pointing the objects. In optical mouse the movement of the pointer is detected by the changes in the reflected light while in the case of old mouses it is detected by the movement of sphere.
Now the main question that arises in your mind is how the movement of mouse is detected by the pointer.I n the case of optical mouse, it takes the microscopic snapshots of the working surface at a rate of more than 1,000 images per second. Now if we move the mouse by a very small amount then the sensor again takes the microscopic snapshots of that surface and tiniest irregularities in the surface can produce images well enough for the sensor and DSP to generate usable movement data. Sometimes it is also possible that pointer is unable to detect any movement in the mouse motion because the irregularities at these surfaces are very small. An example of a poor optical-mousing surface is unfrosted glass. Now in last we can say that an optical mouse makes computer operation easier in general.
