09Oct How to get classic search screen?
The first time when the Windows XP was launched, the search pane with an animator, looked very impressive. As days passed by, the use of the search pane was becoming more and more difficult. Unlike classic search in windows 98, this search could not perform the functions of the some special characters like’?’ and ‘*’. The advanced users which were using the classic search from a long time found it difficult to set hands in the new search. Hence the users demaded that the their should be a tweak in the system which allows to toggle between XP search and classic search.
The Windows Xp service pack 1 and above has the facility to toggle between the two searches. Follow the procedure to get the classic search screen:-
- Start Registry Editor.(Go to Start>>run. Type regedit. Press Enter)
- Expand the hive saying ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER’
- Go to ‘Software’
- Expand ‘Microsoft’
- Then to ‘Windows’
- Now ‘CurrentVersion’
- Now expand ‘Explorer’
- Atlast ‘CabinetState’
- Create a string value saying “Use Search Asst”
- Set the value to “no”
This will set the search screen to classic.
